Proactive approach leads to success

A medical treatment undergone by Ms Bhattacharya, was liable for medical reimbursement. Since her son was abroad, it was difficult for her to get the reimbursement from the organisation, so her son requested Support Elders to help her out. Member care associate, Mr R.K Singh, was appointed for the job. He went out of his way to personally courier important medical documents, arrange for validation and deposited them in the government organisation for the claim. All this was completed flawlessly within a crucial time period. The office was not generally open for public access, but Mr Singh’s sense of duty and proactive approach ensured that the documents reached the right officers at the right time. The outcome was successful and Ms Bhattacharya was immensely relieved to receive the reimbursement.

Assurance and immediate assistance

Due to profuse thunder, lightning and rain for nearly 6 hours in Durgapur, suddenly the lights went off in our member, Mr D. Chattopadhyay’s house. He called the Electricity Board people who told him that the problem would be handled on the next day. It was difficult to move around in the dark without an emergency light, so he called Support Elders for help. ARC Mr G. Pradhan spoke to him and assured him of immediate assistance and sent MCA Mr S. Mallick to his house. On reaching, Mr Mallick arranged for a portable emergency light, he checked the mains and found that a fuse had blown up resulting in a major power cut in his house. Mr Mallick arranged for an electrician to repair the fuse. By the time the electricity was restored it was 2.30 a.m. Ensuring that Mr Chattopadhyay was fine and comfortable he left the place. In the morning he re-visited our member to ensure his wellbeing and was greeted in turn by a happy face.

Timely action to restore necessities

At 3.30 a.m a call was received by MCA Mr S. Dey, from our member Mr B. B. Bhowmik stating an emergency and he immediately rushed to his apartment while intimating about the incident to his senior ATM Mr S. Alam. Mr Bhowmik’s room had caught fire due to a short circuit and was in a bad state. Mr S. Dey called ZC Mr S. Sarkar and both of them immediately shifted Mr Bhowmik to his next-door neighbour’s flat, contacted the police, took permission from them to apply to the Electricity Board to re-work the electrical wiring and connections. In the meantime, they removed the burnt remnants of furnishings and got the necessary things in place. They constantly pursued and got the electrical connection restored within
2 days. During those two days Mr Dey and Mr Sarkar took care of our member and his son and got them food and other necessary supplies. They shifted Mr Bhowmik back to his apartment after making it habitable. The timely presence of the Support Elders team had brought things under control.
