PAST EVENTS

The Online Durga Puja Experience
Like every year, we conducted a puja parikrama where we take our members pandal hopping, with one difference this time—it was held across three days in two cities: Kolkata and Asansol. Many members, however, could not attend in person, so we organised an online puja parikrama for them. Our team visited pandals across Kolkata and brought back pictures, which we compiled for our members. With festive music and the rhythmic beat of dhaaks (traditional percussion instruments), the online session captured the spirit of on-ground pandal hopping, bringing the joy of Durga Puja to our members’ homes.

Little Stars: A Grandparents’ Day Special
For Grandparents’ Day, celebrated on 7 September, we featured a heartwarming video stitched together from tributes sent by our members’ grandchildren. Across a few weeks, we gathered these clips, in which the little ones expressed their love through songs, recitations, paintings, and dance performances. One especially touching moment was when Ms K. Banerjee’s three grandchildren, who live abroad, learnt and recited a Bengali poem just for her. The entire session was filled with such tender gestures, each bringing smiles on our members’ faces. By the end, everyone was deeply moved, and the evening closed with warm festive wishes exchanged all around.

Where Poetry Meets Song
When famed record collector and music aficionado Mr Rantideb Maitra spoke at a Friday programme, he lamented the lack of exchange between different art forms in the modern age. In our latest session, we did something to turn the tide. Four members recited poems, and four others responded to each poem with songs of their choice. The poems were drawn from different authors, and the songs spanned a rich variety—thumri, Rabindrasangeet, Nazrulgeeti, and an Adhunik (contemporary) Bangla number.
By the end of the session, the evening had blossomed into a true confluence—of art forms, tastes, interests, languages, and minds.

NURTURING AND SHARING THE JOY POETRY BRINGS
"The crown of literature is poetry" - W. Somerset Maugham
Our poetry-loving members meet every week to enjoy the beauty of the verse. While some enjoy reciting poems by well-known poets, there are others who pen poems and are thrilled to dig out their long-lost poems—poems that they had thought had lost their value over the years. But we know that good poetry is perennial.
