Songs of a New Dawn
Nothing brings our SE community together like a new beginning. Our LIVE special, dedicated to the Bengali New Year and harvest festivals, saw members come together to sing their favourite songs and recite poetry close to their hearts. Alongside our regulars, the session offered an opportunity for those who usually stay away from the centrestage to step into the spotlight. โThanks to all members who encouraged me to sing a couple of songs today. Very enjoyable evening,โ said Mr N. Ray. Hereโs to more such evenings that give more voices a chance to shine.

Journeys Within and Beyond
Concerns about the global refugee crisis, stories of relief work, and the philosophy of compassion were the points of discussion in a moving session as Sarah Tulivu (Fong Yi), a Taoist nun, shared insights from her travels across the world. โAfter a while, I realised that it was through service that I was looking to understand what love is,โ she reflected. Her words resonated deeply with our members. During her reading from the Tao Te Ching, members offered verses by Indian poets and seers, creating a dialogue across cultures and traditions. The evening unfolded into a celebration of encountersโof people, poetry, philosophy, and love, reminding us of the power of compassion in a divided world.

Be Armed, Not Cyber-Harmed
Cyber fraud is becoming increasingly sophisticated, but awareness is the first step to protection. Ms Sumedha Dutta, a fintech lawyer, joined us to help our members understand common scams and practical ways to stay safe, ensuring that technology remains an asset, not a risk. โThe programme was very informative and educative,โ said a member, Mr S. S. Dasgupta. โMy wife and I have come across such traps, but so far swe have been able to wriggle out of tight spots by being suspicious.โ A regular at our Friday sessions, Ms K. Basu, shared, โThanks for shaking us up! We now have our eyes and ears open wide.โ We hope we continue to empower our members with such sessions, enabling them to navigate the digital world with confidence.

NURTURING AND SHARING THE JOY POETRY BRINGS
"The crown of literature is poetry" - W. Somerset Maugham
Our poetry-loving members meet every week to enjoy the beauty of the verse. While some enjoy reciting poems by well-known poets, there are others who pen poems and are thrilled to dig out their long-lost poemsโpoems that they had thought had lost their value over the years. But we know that good poetry is perennial.
