PAST EVENTS

SE Radio: Songs of Freedom (Independence Day)
To celebrate our country’s 79th Independence Day, we curated two Friday Specials—the first being a vibrant SE Radio event. Patriotic songs, requested by our members and played for our members, filled the air with pride and emotion. As always with SE Radio, the turnout was heartening, and the music sparked cherished memories of our freedom fighters’ sacrifices.
As Ms K Basu shared, “The songs gave one goosebumps.” It was an evening of unity, remembrance, and gratitude. Until next time, we wish everyone a joyful and proud Independence Day!

Let’s Have Fun with AI
Our members’ curiosity about Artificial Intelligence (AI) is endless, so we got together for our third session on the subject. In the age of technology, elders are often beset by cyber threats and dangers, so we began by outlining reasons to be cautious when using AI. Then we moved on to the fun part—trying out chatbots. Our elders logged in with backup devices, followed the instructions, and participated in the live demo. Some searched for recipes, while others researched their favourite authors. Yet more got creative, asking AI about its capacities and testing its self-awareness.
Another successful session on technology, empowering our elders to engage with new tools confidently, stay informed, and embrace the digital age with curiosity and safety!

Health Session: Mental Health and Well-being
When conducting a session on mental health, it is important to begin the conversation at a conceptual level. We invited our members to send in questions, and many of them had thoughtful queries. Ms U. Kapur, for instance, asked, “What is depression?” while Mr A. Bose wondered, “How do I know if I am mentally unwell?”
The session with Dr Jai R. Ram proved to be invaluable. He not only addressed these questions but also dispelled common misconceptions about psychiatric medications. In addition, he offered practical advice on self-care and coping with everyday mental health challenges. As our member Mr C. Ghosh aptly put it, “Mental well-being begins when we are ready to do hard work!”

NURTURING AND SHARING THE JOY POETRY BRINGS
"The crown of literature is poetry" - W. Somerset Maugham
Our poetry-loving members meet every week to enjoy the beauty of the verse. While some enjoy reciting poems by well-known poets, there are others who pen poems and are thrilled to dig out their long-lost poems—poems that they had thought had lost their value over the years. But we know that good poetry is perennial.

The feeling of togetherness and camaraderie is what makes them look forward to each meet.
