PAST EVENTS

Threads of Tradition
The evening was well spent amidst dazzling, glittering Banarasi sarees. The gorgeous look
of the Banarasi still prevails, though it has gone through a lot of changes to keep up with the
varying style. The history of its beginning, the use of gold threads for weaving, to the use of
floral motifs, everything was spoken about. Textile and design curator Mr. Mayank Mansingh
Kaul had in detail, explained about the changing design trends and likewise the changing
fabrics with time.
During the post event discussion, our members shared their experience of the Banarasi
saree and how it was a tradition to wear it during marriages. Long ago the zari work was of
pure gold. They were delighted to know details about the making of Benarasi sarees, about
the weavers of Benaras and also praised the guest speaker for such an informative event.

Numismatics
The evening was filled with fascinating insights into the world of coins, their history and their significance. Our member Mr. D. K Dasgupta took on a journey through time, exploring various coinage systems of different countries.
The audience were treated to a visual feast of coins showcasing diverse range of designs, materials and denominations found throughout history. Our members who watched this event appreciated the collection.
A marvellous discussion followed the event, where everyone shared their experience about some of the different coins seen, the value of coins in their childhood compared to the present day. They spoke about the different mints and coins and the hobby of coin collection which prevailed during that time.

Rabindra Jayanti
On the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, 31 of our members performed live, to pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore. They all connected online from the comfort of their home, to have a fantastic evening singing songs, reading scripts and reciting poems. It was a two-hour special program. The participants with their unwavering passion and enthusiasm, mesmerized the audience with their exceptional singing and reciting skills. The ambiance was filled with the essence of Tagore’s timeless compositions, as the members rendered his soulful songs and recited his profound poems with utmost grace and emotion. The audience praised and applauded everyone for making the evening special for all of them.

NURTURING AND SHARING THE JOY POETRY BRINGS
"The crown of literature is poetry" - W. Somerset Maugham
Our poetry-loving members meet every week to enjoy the beauty of the verse. While some enjoy reciting poems by well-known poets, there are others who pen poems and are thrilled to dig out their long-lost poems—poems that they had thought had lost their value over the years. But we know that good poetry is perennial.
