See Our Care In Action

Care is often felt most deeply in difficult situations. Here are a few that made a difference.

Sometime in March, our Bengaluru member Mr M. Rao was facing issues with his health and GPS tracker smartwatch designed for seniors. He travelled to Mumbai and, upon his return to Bengaluru, the watch continued to show its location and coordinates as Mumbai. With the permission of our member’s son, Mr S. Kiran, our staff removed the SIM and inserted another SIM brought from the Kolkata office. Regardless of the SIM, the watch kept showing Mumbai as its location. Immediately, our staff contacted Mr P. Maity and requested help to configure the watch. After a while, the watch was taken about 800 m. away from Mr Kiran’s residence. There, the location changed from Mumbai to Bengaluru, and the coordinates updated correctly. The watch was then returned, and Mr Kiran was informed about the rectification. To further assure the member, a demonstration drill was conducted in front of Mr and Ms Rao, Mr Shiv Kiran’s parents. The Alarm Centre responded immediately, notifying the MCA on duty at our New Shelter location. The MCA arrived at the member’s residence within 14–15 mins, introduced himself, and explained his duties. The entire drill was completed in 30 minutes, leaving the family confident and pleased with our service. Kudos to Team Support Elders!

Mr. Asok Kumar Basu Thakur got admitted to Fortis Hospital for his dialysis. While the dialysis was in progress, he suddenly started to have complications and needed blood transfusion. His blood group A – (negative) is a rare one. One of our staff went to visit him at Fortis Hospital Bypass. It was a regular visit. The member’s daughter was present there quite tensed. They were not able to get that blood group from the hospital Blood Bank. They thought of arranging it from SSKM hospital. Our staff rushed to SSKM where he was refused. He didn’t stop there. He started looking for other sources. While doing that he gathered information that Maniktala Blood bank can provide the required blood group. He informed the member’s daughter and immediately hurried to Maniktala. There he was asked to wait for 3 hours as he was in a queue comprising 5 people. The doctors of Fortis Hospital asked to collect blood within ½ hour. Without having any other options, he promptly showed his army identity card and made a special request. It was for his sheer presence of mind that he could not only manage to get blood but also reached hospital within an hour and made sure to get the transfusion start. It was already 9pm. His duty hours was supposed to get over by 6pm. The sense of responsibility prevailed over the routine. This virtue of our staff was very much appreciated by Mr. Basu Thakur’s daughter.

The mobility of our members, Justice Ghosh and his wife, is largely restricted within the house due to geriatric complications. When a Member Care Associate reached the couple’s residence on an IFS call this summer and requested for a glass of water, Ms Ghosh told him that their maid had not turned up that day and there was no drinking water. Enquiring further, the Member Care Associate got to know that lunch had not been prepared though it was close to 1 o’clock. Using his presence of mind, the Member Care Associate quickly rushed and brought piping hot lunch for the couple from a nearby restaurant. Not only that, he also got food for dinner and mineral water bottles. The Ghoshes were touched by the gesture! They expressed their gratitude to the MCA and to Support Elders.
